UFC Fight Night 13: Florian on the rise

Veteran lightweight Kenny Florian landed an impressive victory Wednesday, stopping Joe Lauzon at UFC Fight Night 13. The victory improves Florian to 7-2 in the UFC and 4-0 since losing to Sean Sherk in 2006.

Kenny Florian might be separating himself from the competition in the UFC’s deepest, most talented division. Florian left the octagon victorious for the fourth consecutive time, defeating the up-and-coming Joe Lauzon in the main event of UFC Fight Night 13.

Florian secured the victory after repeated strikes from the mount position at 3:28 in the second round and afterwards, Florian said heading into the fight, the physical toll from training was evident.

"I knew it was going to be a tough fight," Florian said. "I probably shouldn't be here today fighting today. I pushed through some things physically, and I was just lucky to be here in the ring tonight."

The victory brings Florian closer to a possible shot at BJ Penn’s lightweight championship, a title that eluded Florian in his last defeat, back in Oct. 2006 to former champion Sean Sherk.
